What do you need to let go?

Reflect — December 23, 2023

You know those days in grade school when the teacher would roll into the classroom with a TV strapped to a cart and all the kids would collectively lose our minds with excitement? That’s right, class. Today we’re watching a video.

Well, two videos to be exact — both only a few minutes long. They’re all about honoring any pain we’ve felt in the past year…and then letting it go. ✌🏼

The first video comes from iconic activist and writer Joanna Macy, who Sam calls the hippie grandma she never had. Get ready for vintage Bob Ross ASMR vibes with an extra dose of planetary wisdom. This one really challenged us to slow down and reflect — we hope you can find a quiet moment to embrace that calm, too.

Today’s practice

Isn’t she magic? We love this quote from Joanna as a kicker:

“Precisely because we speak [our pain], we don’t stay there. Because that despair is the covering of our love for our world, and we crack it open by speaking it. So that the love can act.”

There’s so much power in letting yourself feel into the pain you’re experiencing, whether it’s your own or the world’s. There’s also power in releasing, as today’s quote says, “the small sh*t” so we can focus on what really matters. And for that, Emily brings you a gift from the doggfather she never had.

Crowdsourcing wisdom

Each day, we’ll invite you to share your own insights — because we have this hunch that each of us holds pieces of the answer, and Blossom is all about bringing those pieces together.

Tell us…
As we process pain for ourselves and the world, what practices, resources or advice have helped you?
