What were your peak experiences this year?

Reflect — December 22, 2023

Moments of transition get us thinking a little deeper — what the heck just happened? What did it all mean? Who even am I now? The end of the year definitely has that vibe for us.

In the chaos of the holiday season, we’re craving a pause to look back at the last twelve months and figure out what it all meant. If you’re feeling the same, we have a simple exercise below to help make sense of 2023.

Pausing to reflect on your own life might seem self-indulgent given the chaos in the world, but we’re guided by the words of Grace Lee Boggs on this one: “We must transform ourselves to transform the world.” And also by the words of flight attendants on every plane ever: put on your own oxygen mask first. ♡

Find a spot to write (could be a notepad or the Notes app, wherever you like to jot things down) and follow these three steps to process the past year.

  1. Reflect on three peak moments from your year — and take a beat to really feel into those moments. They don’t have to be big milestones or glamorous travels (though they can be!). It’s about those times you felt a genuine sense of fulfillment, awe, or joy.

  2. Ask yourself what those three moments are telling you about what really matters to you. What made them stand out in your mind? Maybe it was connection, or creativity, or accomplishing something hard.

  3. Write down three core values that those moments reflected. It could be on a post-it, a napkin — whatever! Put it somewhere you’ll see it often, and let it be a reminder going into next year: More of this, please.
